On the water

Lake Duluti sits in a volcanic crater near Tengeru, about 14 km east of Arusha. The water is calm and motorboat-free, so canoeing is beginner-friendly and especially good for quiet photography.

Your guide paddles you along reed beds and overhanging forest while pointing out fish eagles, kingfishers, herons, and cormorants. On clear mornings, Mount Meru reflects on the surface; Kilimanjaro can appear on the far horizon.

After canoeing, a short forest walk around the Duluti Forest Reserve adds monkey sightings, butterflies, and more birdlife before you return to Arusha.
