Welcome to Rwanda — Africa's cleanest and most remarkable small nation. Your Clan Adventure guide meets you at Kigali International and transfers you to your hotel. Depending on arrival time, enjoy an optional afternoon city tour including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, craft markets, and the hilltop views over the city. Welcome dinner in the evening.
After breakfast, drive northwest through Rwanda's spectacular terraced hills to Musanze, gateway to the Virunga volcanoes. Check in to your lodge on the edge of Volcanoes National Park — dramatic views of the volcanic peaks surround you. In the afternoon, enjoy a golden monkey trek through the bamboo forest — a delightful warm-up to tomorrow's main event. These endemic primates are playful, curious, and fast.
The day every Rwanda traveller remembers for the rest of their life. After an early breakfast and briefing at the park headquarters, you are assigned to a habituated gorilla family and guided by experienced trackers and armed rangers into the forest. The trek can range from 1 to 5 hours depending on where the gorillas are. Once found, you spend one precious, unhurried hour in their presence — watching them feed, play, groom, and go about their extraordinary lives. A profoundly moving experience that words genuinely cannot capture.
Begin the morning with an optional hike to the Dian Fossey research camp at Karisoke — visiting the tomb of the legendary gorilla conservationist and the site of her groundbreaking work depicted in Gorillas in the Mist. A deeply moving and historically significant half-day trek. Return to Musanze for lunch, then drive back to Kigali for your final overnight before departure.
Transfer to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight — or extend your Operation adventure with a connection to Tanzania or Kenya.
